CHAPTER TWELVE
FOX
âIâm going with you,â I tell Cristiano. He stops mid-movement, one foot already in his nice shoes while heâs tying the laces on the other.
âNo,â Cristiano says flatly. âYouâre staying here, and Iâm going to chain you to the bed so you canât cause trouble.â
I cross the distance between his bedroom door and where heâs sitting on the ottoman in front of the bed. Iâve already put on a suit, courtesy of the clothes stashed in Briarâs room. Briar will never have to know.
âI have a list of reasons.â I wait for his glower, then continue, âOne: youâre still being targeted, and we donât know by whom. Me being with you could draw them out. Two: I am very, very good at reading people. Even if nobody is out to kill you, I could help with your business. Three: You said you wanted to make me part of your gang. And fourâ¦â I get down on my knees, put my arms on his thighs, and look up at him. âPlease, Daddy?â
Cristianoâs breath catches, and he stares down at me. âYouâre also down to two days to kill me,â he points out. âHow do I know Corbin isnât stalking us, where heâll give you a weapon to take me out when Iâm least expecting it?â
âNah, thatâs not his style.â I smile widely. âHe wouldnât risk getting seen at an event crawling with former clients, and he definitely wouldnât bother helping me fix my mistakes.â I run my hands up his thighs. âI already got all dressed up, too. Donât you want to show me off to the world, Daddy?â
He touches my chin, tilting my head up a little more. âBriarâs going to murder you if they realize you borrowed one of their suits,â he says. He smirks down at me. âWell, that would solve one problem for me.â
I nod agreeably. âYep. Because if they attack me, itâll be self-defense when I shoot them point blank.â I mouth at his knee for a second. âMaybe you should have bought a suit for me when you got me clothes for our date. Then Iâd be wearing your clothes, and not one of your conquestâs.â
Fuck, I hate how much I wish he had. I can already imagine him picking out clothes for me, making me model for him, forcing me to stand perfectly still while he pretends to measure meâ¦
Marking me as his own.
I keep thinking back to what heâd said. That he would make a space for me with him. I know itâs too good to be true, I know that I canât rely on something like that.
But, what ifâ¦
âI told you, Briar isnât a conquest. Briar is an employee whoâs paid to be on hand for me whenever I need themâand not for sex. Iâve never had sex with Briar, and Iâm not interested in Briar. Nor is Briar interested in me,â Cristiano says.
âSure. But if you leave me here, Iâll escape my chains and start really provoking Briar.â I bite his thigh, though I donât know how much heâll feel through the heavy wool slacks.
